Memory nearly full message when opening .ppt

I have a powerpoint 97 presentation that is 433Kb. The only copy was saved on diskette (big mistake). When launching this file, I get an error message that reads "Memory is nearly full. Save your work and close any other open presentations." I searched the MSKB and didn't find anything relevant. I have tried opening this file on multiple pc's, always getting the error. I know I can safely rule out memory issues on my pc. It seems the file is corrupt. Is anyone familiar with this? Is there any way I can salvage data from this file, or repair it? This matter is slightly urgent. Thanks for any help.
