grey prints

I have set up a darkroom, developped my first roll of film at home, did a test strip and a contact sheet and all looks well but when I tried a 5x7 print the contrast is grey. I tried changing the developer, changing the aperture, and even trying different paper but still grey, no contrast. any ideas? ltatman

are you using multigrade paper? If you are, have you remembered to put the filter in.
